Glapthorn is a Northamptonshire village just 2 miles north west of Oundle. Oundle had held races for almost 20 years between 1839 and the late 1850s, but the Oundle Hunt organised a race meeting on Monday 27th March 1865 over good hunting ground at Glapthorn when the feature race was the 3 ½ mile Fitzwilliam Hunt Cup. Meetings continued for the next 2 years, with a final steeplechase meeting being staged on Friday 8th February 1867. The Oundle Steeplechase Plate was won by Old Squire, owned by Mr Goodliffe, who beat Reginald. Later in the day the Fitzwilliam Hunt Cup went to Geraldine owned by Mr C B Bletsoe. |
